| FAQs |
Can the Brew Express be installed on an outside wall?
Yes, but the installer/owner should be concerned about freezing conditions. If it is a 2 x 4 outer wall, it is not suggested. If it is a 2 x 6 wall then insulation can be added to offset the freezing. If freezing is still an issue, firing the wall out is another option. It should be noted that all installations on exterior walls are at the risk of the owner/contractor. Why isn't the outlet on the Brew Express Ground Fault protected? UL advised not to Ground Fault the outlet because it may result in confusion with the reset button, used with excessive load. UL asked us to turn off the outlet during brew time by way of relay. This would cause outlet to be tripped, and also if used it would be used like a breaker. Instead UL recommend we connect the Brew Express to a power source that is GFCI protected. This can be done by means of connection to a nearby outlet that is connected to GFCI, or if direct line connection, then a breaker can be GFCI protected easily. Our unit draws 12 amps for 7 minutes maximum. Most other counter appliances are the same, such as a bread machine. Is it required to filter the water? Yes, & No. Yes, if there is no other filter on the water system. If the water is not filtered, sediment could eventually clog the valve, and the warranty is voided. No the filter is not required if the house has a system-wide filter, or if a water jug is being used. What type of Filter is required? A simple icemaker style filter will work. Make sure to read the filter’s instructions to purge the water. There are several filters on the market, like the GE Smart Filter that is easy to install under the sink. Lance-Larkin is going to offer a filter and water installation kit very soon. The units are in stock and we are preparing the full kit that includes valve, waterline, and filter. The main issue with the filter is sediment and taste. What if the builder didn't read the instruction manual and just installed the rough-in box? The first question to ask is; is it to be on the counter, or just a wall area? If it is to be on a counter of a new project, reading instructions will be a big benefit when you consider uneven floors, or shims on cabinets, or changing countertop materials (Formica to granite), or changing floor finish materials. This is all discussed in the manuals. It is highly recommend that the builder read instructions! Also, the template provided can be a great aide in the installation process. Water Pressure: What is minimum and maximum water pressure? The Brew Express specifications sheet states, 30 psi to 120 psi. If it is lower than 30 psi, the pressure sensor will not allow the unit to work. You will get a "EEEE" message. This can mean no water, low pressure, or your filter is plugged. What about RO or Reverse Osmosis system? Yes, we believe our system will run fine, but again water pressure must be met. What about full height back splash? Yes, you should read the manual for this. It is simple, to cut sheetrock out to fit the rough-in-box (RIB) then remove RIB, and install backsplash around opening, then re-install RIB for final installation.
